This Week in Grade 4

Hello everybody!  We hope you had a wonderful and restful long weekend.  Thank you to all the parents who contributed food and joined us for our fun-filled Honduran Independence Day Celebration.  Special thanks go to our class moms Doris Touchstone and Lizzeth Mendoza for helping organize everything.  Enjoy the pictures!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Nutrition Talk    Ms. Erika Corletto is organizing a Nutrition Talk for our Discovery School parents, sponsored by Pediasure. This talk will be offered by Eda Flefil, a nutritionist that will be talking about the benefits of a well-balanced diet. Please join us on Friday, September 21 at 2:30 p.m. in our school library.

MAP Testing   This week begins the fall session of our MAP assessments.  Don't worry, it's not a test that needs studying for.  The results are important though, so we will remind each student to try their best.  Results will be shared with parents at our first Teacher-Parent conference in October.

THIS WEEK'S ACTIVITIES:

Math:  This week in Math lessons we will be learning to understand and solve number expressions with variables.  This is our introduction to algebraic concepts.  Afterwards we will review all of our addition and subtraction skills and prepare for our chapter test on Friday.   TEST ON FRIDAY!

Reading and Writing:  We will be working on writing our 11th chapter to our class novel 'Stone Fox'.  The students will learn about how to use quotations properly in their writing, and then practice their peer editing skills with each other.  For guided reading periods we will be looking at the life of the author of our next class novel, Roald Dahl.

Science:  This week we will be learning about the water cycle, as we begin our new Science unit, 'Land and Water'.

Grammar:  Our focus in grammar lessons will be on understanding the difference between the adverb and the adjective.

Here's to a great week everybody!  Thanks for reading!!
