This Week in Fourth Grade

Greetings parents and students!  Here's to an excellent October!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

MAP testing:  This is our last week of MAP testing.  The students will be taking their Language Usage portion of the test.  Good luck and try your best everybody!

ELEMENTARY PARENT LUNCHEON: Our School Cafeteria will be hosting their first Parent
Luncheon for Elementary parents and students on Friday, October 19. Pre-order forms with the menu and prices will be distributed soon.

THIS WEEK'S ACTIVITIES:

Math: We will begin looking at the meaning of division and reviewing our basic division facts, before we get into writing our own story problems to correspond with multiplication and division number
sentences. We will also be working on our problem solving abilities this week while practicing how to
effectively solve multiple step problems. If any student is having difficulty remembering their basic
multiplication or division facts, now is the time to practice! We have flashcards that we can lend out,
but students may need parental assistance to make sure their division and multiplication facts can be
recalled quickly.

Reading and Writing: We will continue reading the introduction to our new novel, "James and the
Giant Peach". Students will then learn about text to text connections and write about the text to text connections that they find between "James and the G P" and another book that they have read this year or in past years.

Science: We will be looking at the connection between land and water in our second experiment this
week. The experiment will model the creation of streams and how water can shape the land around it. The students will work in groups to create this experiment and reflect on the results.

Grammar: We will be reviewing the four parts of speech that we have covered thus far in grammar
lessons. Nouns, Verbs, Adverbs, and Adjectives.

Spelling: Spelling words this week will focus on works with /CK/

Here's to another fun-filled week at Discovery!!
