Hello everybody! Thanks for checking in. Here's to another fun-filled week at Discovery School!
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
Field Trip!! On October 18th, both grade 4 classes will be taking a field trip to La Tigra National Park. The purpose of the trip will be to gain hands on evidence of the connection between land and water, (our current science unit). All students will be leaving at 8:30 am and returning to school around 1:30. PARENT VOLUNTEERS if you can make it we would love to have you join us for this trip. Please contact Jordan or Karen if you're interested in volunteering.
October 19th the school cafeteria will be having a parent-student luncheon. Menus will be coming home soon for all those interested in coming for lunch at school on that day.
CLASS ACTIVITIES:
Math: Students will be learning to write and evaluate algebraic expressions with division and multiplication operations. They will also learn to write an algebraic expression that describes a rule from a pattern. Finally our students will be solving multiplication and division equations, followed by a review period at the end of the week.
Reading and Writing: This week we will continue reading our class novel, 'James and the Giant Peach'. Our reading skill focus will be on using 'context clues' to try to determine the meaning of new and/or difficult words from the text.
Grammar: Our grammar focus for the week will be on conjunctions. We will use conjunctions to keep away from run-on sentences, and make our writing better. :)
Science: We will begin our final experiment for the unit this week. We will be looking at how land and water can affect human beings, and how human's try to control the affect through the use of dams and other methods. Students will then fact their own challenge to protect a small town from flooding. Students will create their own method to save the town and then reflect on it's effectiveness.
Spelling: This week's focus is on the soft G and soft C sounds.
Here's to a great week everyone! Thanks for reading!!
