Thanks as always for checking in. This is our last full week before holidays. Here's to a fun and productive week before we head off our separate ways.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
IXL Online Homework Site: Thanks to all the parent for making it possible for our students to get online and practice their math skills. We're pleased with the results thus far. This week we will have 2 nights where we will ask the students to again go to the website and do their homework online. Please contact Jordan or Karen if you have any questions, concerns, or comments.
Support Staff Donations: Thanks to all the families who is donated pasta and/or coffee for our Discovery School support staff. If you have not already sent in a food item there is still time.
THIS WEEK'S ACTIVITIES:
Math: We will begin the week by applying our algebra knowledge to division by writing number sentences to help us solve word problems. We will then learn about the rules of divisibility, finding averages, dividing by multiples of ten, and dividing with two-digit divisors. Our unit test on division will be held next week before we head off for break.
Reading and Writing: In reading lessons this week we will be analyzing the climax of 'James and the Giant Peach' Our students will be looking for the key elements of a good climax within the novel, and give their thoughts on the climax. In writing periods the students will continue drafting our narratives using our 'plot mountain' graphic organizer. Early finishers will begin the proofreading and editing processes so that their story is truly representative of their best writing.
Science: We will be reading about a famous design challenge and discussing the importance of good design with regards to creating something effectively. We will then be learning about the force of gravity, and testing how gravity can be used to create motion in the vehicles that we built last week.
Grammar: Our focus this week will be on proofreading in preparation for the proofreading we will complete in our narratives.
Here's to a great week in grade 4!! Thanks for checking in!!
All the best,
Jordan and Karen
