Greetings everybody! Thanks for checking in with you fourth grade blogspot.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
Midterm Progress Reports were sent home last Tuesday. If you have not already done so, please sign them and send them back to school with your child. This is to let us know that you received them, and whether or not you would like to meet with your child's teacher.
Casa Kinich Presentation: This Tuesday a representative from the Casa Kinich will be coming to Discovery to teach us about Copan and the Scarlet Macaw. It should be a fun and interesting period.
MAP tests continue this week. Good luck students!
THIS WEEK'S CLASS ACTIVITIES:
Math: We are now turning our attention in math lessons to multiplication. This week we will be learning about the meaning of multiplication, patterns in our multiplication facts, and some mental math strategies to help us do larger problems in our heads. We will also be working on the problem solving strategy of 'making a table'.
Reading and Writing: We will be finishing our proofreading and editing of our additional Stonefox chapters this week, and then sharing them with our classmates. We will also finish taking a look at the life of the great, Roald Dahl, before beginning our new class novel, 'James and The Giant Peach'.
Science: We will be conducting our first science experiment of the year when we create our very own models of the water cycle. The students will get a chance to observe the water cycle in front of them, and then reflect on what they've seen.
Spelling: This week's focus will be on the ow/ou sound. As in power or hour.
Grammar: We will continue to look at the difference between adverbs and adjectives this week in grammar lessons, as well as apply what we've learned about punctuating dialogue and run-on sentences during our proofreading of our written work.
Thanks as always for reading! Here's to another great week in grade four!
