Hello parents and students. We hope you had a great weekend. Thanks again to all the parents who were able to join us for our field trip last Thursday. It was a fun and educational day for our fourth graders. Here are some pictures to enjoy:
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
PARENT-TEACHER-STUDENT CONFERENCES will be held on Friday, October 26th. Teachers will be sending home notes with your attached conference time. If it is not possible to make your time, please contact your child's teacher as soon as possible to make alternative arrangements.
UN DAY is this Thursday! One of the best days of the year has come again. Students will be participating in UN day and learning more about all the different nationalities represented here at Discovery. This will be an early dismissal day.
THIS WEEK'S CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:
Math: In math lessons this week we will be learning to estimate using our rounding and estimation skills. We will be working on mental math skills for multiplying larger numbers in our heads. Finally we will be moving into multiplying three-digit by one-digit numbers using the algorithm method.
Reading and Writing: Our reading skill of the week will be summarizing. Our students will be reading selections from non-fiction texts and practicing summarizing the information into their own words. We will also apply this skill into summarizing a chapter from our class novel, "James and the Giant Peach".
Social Studies: We will begin our new social studies unit this week entitled, 'Immigration in America'. Our students will be learning about what motivates immigrants to move to a new country, and how immigration has helped to shape the Americas.
Grammar: This week's focus is on the pronoun.
Here's to a great week! We look forward to seeing everyone this Thursday and Friday. All the best,
Jordan and Karen
