This Week in Discovery

Greetings parents and students!  We hope you had a great long weekend.  Here's to another fun-filled week at Discovery.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

FIELD TRIP THIS THURSDAY!!!

This Thursday, Oct. 18 we will be heading for La Tigra National Park for our 'land and water' field trip.  It should be a great time!  All the details will be included in the field trip permission form that will be coming home with the students.  Please read carefully and contact Jordan or Karen if you have any questions or concerns.  Thanks so much for your cooperation parents!!

THIS WEEK'S CLASS ACTIVITIES:

Math:  Tuesday morning we will be reviewing what we've learned so far about multiplication, division, algebra, and problem solving this chapter.  Wednesday morning will be our CHAPTER TEST!!!  On Friday we'll be starting our next chapter by looking at multiplying numbers by 10, 100, and 1000.

Reading and Writing:  In our language arts lessons this week we will continue to work on the reading skill of 'context clues'.  With this skill, students will learn strategies for deciphering the meaning of new and challenging words that they come across in their reading.  This is a vital skill for our students to learn, especially given the challenging nature of the text in our class novel, 'James and the Giant Peach'.

Science:  Ours students have completed their summative assessment activity where they built a dam and modelled flood conditions.  This week will be our field trip and reflection activities, before we move into our next theme unit, 'Immigration in America'.

Grammar:  We will be looking at the conjunction again this week in grammar lessons.  There will be no spelling activities this week due to the short nature of the week.

Here's to an excellent week in grade 4!!   Thanks again for checking in with us.

Sincerely,

Jordan and Karen
