Hello everybody! Thanks as always for checking in. Here's to another busy and fun-filled week at Discovery School.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
No School This Friday. This day was originally set aside as the main day for the Discovery School workshop, but has now been designated as a teacher's work day. Have a fun day off boys and girls!
Science Fair. Thanks so much to the parents who spend time helping our students plan out a fun experiment or inquiry for this year's Science Fair. The second deadline is coming up on Nov. 20th and requires students to formulate some questions for their inquiry and a hypothesis. Please contact Jordan or Karen if you have any questions about this important next step in the Science Fair process.
THIS WEEK'S ACTIVITIES:
Math: We will start the week by learning the '4 step breakdown' for multiplying two-digit numbers by two-digit numbers, and using arrays to create a visual representation of this process. We will then turn our attention to the problem solving strategy of making 'organized lists', before learning to multiply two-digit numbers by two and three digit numbers using the algorithm method.
Reading and Writing: This week we will be working on visualizing the things that we read in our class novel, 'James and the GP'. We will also begin setting up our literature circles for a student led study of what's happening in our novel, what are the connections that we've made thus far, and what questions we have regarding the novel. In writing classes we will be working on seeing the issue of immigration in America from a number of different perspectives.
Grammar: This week's focus will be on everybody's favourite part of the speech, the interjection!
Social Studies: We will continue to read and summarize the key aspects of immigration in America, as well as extend our learning to see how the process of immigrating to a new country can be viewed differently by different people.
Here's to a great week everyone! All the best,
Jordan and Karen
