This Week in Grade 4

Hello everybody.  We hope you're well and looking forward to our long Thanksgiving weekend coming up.  Thanks as always for checking in with us!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Thanksgiving Celebration!!  This Wednesday grade 4 will be having a Thanksgiving celebration.  All parents and family are invited to watch both grade 4 classes perform a play entitled 'First Stop Ellis Island'.  The play is from our social studies unit 'Immigration in America', and we will start at 11:00 am.   After both classes have performed we will have a family Thanksgiving lunch.  If you can, please try to be at school on time at 11 am if you plan to watch the play, as late arrivals may disrupt the performance.

Science Fair:  This Tuesday, Nov. 20th is the second deadline for the Science Fair Project.  Please make set aside some time if you have not already to help your son/daughter stay on track with this project.  If you have any questions on how to complete this second step of the process please contact Jordan or Karen.

CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:

MATH:  This week we will be mastering our multiplication skills as we practice multiplying money, and reviewing how to multiply two digit by three digit numbers.  We will have a MATH QUIZ WEDNESDAY to assess whether our students can multiply effectively.

Reading and Writing:  We will be reviewing our reading logs this week to check for variety of genres and difficulty levels.  We will also continue reading our class novel, 'James and the GP' and discuss what character development we have seen in our main characters from the start of the novel.  In writing we are going to start the pre-writing process for our upcoming narrative writing project, as we brainstorm possible ideas that we would like to write about or characters we would like to bring to life.

Social Studies:  We will finish our read and summarize exercises with the booklet, 'Immigration in America'.  Upon completion we will try to make a general summary of the information and it's importance to modern day issues.  We will also be getting ready to perform 'First Stop Ellis Island' this Wednesday!!

Here's to a great and short week at Discovery!  We hope everyone can make it on Wednesday, it should be a very fun day!!   All the best,

Jordan and Karen
