This Week in Grade 4
Hello parents and students! Thanks to all the families who have gotten a good start on this year's Science project. Monday is the first deadline, so if you haven't already found a good idea to run with, please contact Jordan or Karen for some good ideas.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
Science Fair Deadline. As stated above, we have reached our first deadline. All students should have their project proposal ready for their teacher to sign off on. If you have any questions or difficulties please contact Jordan or Karen.
Minuta Day on Friday. The Language Arts Festival committee will be selling minutas for all the students this Friday at lunch.
THIS WEEK'S CLASS ACTIVITIES:
Math: At the start of the week we will be working on our problem solving skills, and choosing the correct operation every time. Tuesday will be a review period before our CHAPTER TEST ON WEDNESDAY! The test will cover all of the multiplication concepts and problem solving strategies we have learned over the past few weeks. Thursday and Friday we will turn our attention to division.
Reading and Writing: During SSR periods we will be choosing and reading something from the non-fiction genre. Students will be reading and practicing their summarizing skills from these informative texts. In guided reading lessons we will continue our class novel, 'James and the Giant Peach', and preparing for our upcoming literature circles.
Social Studies: This week we will be learning about some of the waves of immigrants that came to America, and analyzing why they chose to immigrate and discuss some of the inevitable hardships associated with immigration then and now. We will also be practicing our play, 'First Stop Ellis Island', that deals with many of the concepts we are studying in a dramatic piece, and our song, 'Younger Brother' that does the same through music.
Grammar: This week's focus will be on learning, practicing and applying the rules of capitalization in the English language.
Here's to another fun filled week in grade 4!!
All the best,
Jordan and Karen
