Hello everyone! Thanks for checking in. We're off and running in our 3rd quarter of the school year. Here's to another great week at Discovery.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. Next Monday, January 21st we will observe the US holiday for MLK jr. day. This Friday we will have a short assembly to share with the students the importance of King's life and legacy.
THIS WEEK'S CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:
Math: Our Geometry Unit continues this week with a look at lines and angles, triangles and quadrilaterals, and circles.
Reading and Writing: Our reading skill this week is 'Cause and Effect Relationships'. The students will learn about these relationships and then identify them in our reading material and in their own lives. In writing periods, students will work together to create interesting and descriptive similes. Their focus this week will be on colour similes. For ex. As brown as a plate of chorizo sausage and frijoles.
Science: The students will be learning about the force of friction, and examine it's effect on the motion of their vehicles. The students will also learn about kinetic energy, and create a vehicle that is powered by the kinetic energy of a rubber band. Finally, the students will learn about air resistance and build a vehicle that runs on air power.
Grammar: This week's focus will be on everyone's favourite homophone: there, their, and they're.
Thanks as always for check in with us. Here's to a great week!!
Jordan and Karen
