Greetings everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are ready and rested for the new year at Discovery School. Here's to an excellent 2013!!
THIS WEEK'S CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:
Math: It's geometry time!! Everyone's favourite time of year!! We will begin our unit by comparing solid and plane figures, and building our own solid figures. We will then be looking at polygons, lines, rays, and angles, before ending off with an inquiry into triangles and quadrilaterals.
Language Arts: In reading lessons this week we will be starting our next class novel, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever". We will analyze the 1st person perspective from which the story is told and compare and contrast that with the 3rd person perspective we found in our first two class novels. In writing lessons we will take some time to reflect on our first half of the school year, and our Christmas holidays. We will also be making a new year's resolution that will help us become better students. Lastly we will be learning about similes, and practice creating our own descriptive similes.
Science: In science lessons this week we will be reading about a famous design challenge, and then work in groups to re-design our vehicles in order to meet our very own design challenge.
Here's to a great first week in 2013!! Thanks to everyone for checking in!! Happy New Year from your grade 4 teachers!!
