Hello everybody! Thanks as always for checking in with us here in grade 4. January has already come and gone. Here's to a fun filled February!!
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
Reading Material: As we're sure you already know, here in grade 4 we love to read. Every night in fact! Our students should be reading at least 20-30 minutes each night, depending on their other homework commitments. If you feel that your child is not reading every night, or if you would like book suggestions for your child's reading level, please contact Karen or Jordan.
CLASS ACTIVITIES:
Math: We will be completing our Geometry unit this week. We will be looking at perimeter, area, and volume and discovering how they all fit together. We will also practice how to calculate these methods of measurement in different types of shapes. Thursday's class will be a review period, followed by our unit test on Friday. I REPEAT: TEST ON FRIDAY!
Reading and Writing: We will be reading our class novel this week, 'The Best Christmas Pageant Ever', and making predictions for the climax of our story. We will also be discussing what the 'real' meaning of Christmas is, and how our novel tries to illuminate this idea. In writing periods we will be learning about metaphors, and then begin writing our interesting/silly/beautiful metaphors.
Science: We will be conducting our wind resistance experiment this week that we had planned for last week. We will be creating a vehicle with a sail that can utilize wind power to create motion.
Grammar: Our grammar focus this week will be on synonyms and antonyms.
Thanks as always for reading everybody!! Here's to another great week in grade 4!!
Jordan and Karen
