This Week in Grade 4

Hello everybody!  Thanks as always for checking in with our grade 4 class blog.  Here's to another fun filled week at Discovery.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Minutas Fridas:  This Friday there will be minutas for sale for 25 lps to support the ABSH festival.

Roses for Valentines:  The seniors will be selling roses for valentines.  If your child would like a rose to give to that special someone this valentines, please fill out the form that was sent home and return it to your homeroom teacher.  Orders need to be in by Tuesday, February 5th.  Roses are 35 lps each.

THIS WEEK'S CLASS ACTIVITIES:

Math:  We are beginning our fractions unit this week.  We will be learning about what a fraction is and important concepts such as numerators and denominators.  We will also look at our fraction strips and start comparing and estimating the size of different fractions.  It should be fun!

Reading:  We will be reading our class novel, 'The Best Christmas Pageant Ever' and looking at the causes that led to the effect in the climax of the story.  We will also be reading some examples of free verse poetry and analyzing the key aspects of a free verse poem.

Writing:  We will begin our poetry writing unit this week by looking at free verse poetry and practicing creating our very own free verse poems.

Science:  We will be preparing for our final design challenge this week.  Each group will select a challenge and work hard to ensure that their vehicle can use energy efficiently and effectively to create motion.

Grammar:  This week's focus will be on a review of capitalization and punctuation rules.
